FEVIA is the association of companies in the food & beverages industry in Belgium. FIT stands for Flanders Investment and Trade, the export agency of the Government of Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. Together with FEVIA and FIT, Horsten International and Green Seed will organise 3 workshops in the second half of 2018 and January 2019, in preparation for a trade mission to China in March 2019.

On 27th September 2018 the first workshop will be held, covering topics such as fact & figures of the China food market, introduction about the Chinese consumer and spending behaviour, entry models and regulatory issues.

During this event, the Sino Benelux Business Survey was presented by Michiel Vos of Moore Stephens and key trends in Chinese intellectual property were presented by Valentin de le Court from the IPR China Helpdesk.

On Friday 19th January 2018 Bart Horsten was a lecturer at an afternoon workshop at the Retail Academy, talking about E-commerce, social media and new retail in China. About 20 participants attended the workshop. After a short introduction, in the first part of the workshop we looked at the Chinese market today, the Chinese consumer and market entry methods, followed by a view on E-commerce market statistics and trends and opportunities in E-commerce and Cross-Border E-commerce with China.

After the break the workshop focused on social media, mobile payments and m-commerce, as well as recent developments in the retail business in China. The session was concluded by some strategic considerations and key takeways.

On 13 and 14 December 2017 Horsten International organized two successful tourism workshops in the Netherlands and in Belgium, together with ChinaTalk and NextportChina.

Ed Sander of ChinaTalk started the workshop by giving an introduction about the latest trends and developments of China's booming outbound tourism, offering big opportunities for many Dutch and Belgian companies active in the tourism and cultural industry.

Then Bart Horsten talked about different case studies and best practices of some of Horsten International's tourism projects, giving a lot of practical tips about how to use offline and online ways to attract more Chinese tourists and making Benelux locations or destinations more ‘China-ready’.

After the break Thijs van der Toom of NextportChina gave more insights into the use of Chinese social media and online payment systems to more efficiently engage with the potential Chinese visitors.

Finally Ed Sander explained the audience why certain Chinese tourists behave very differently than tourists from other countries and how to react to that.

The workshop was concluded by a Q&A session and a networking reception.

In total more than 35 participants attended the workshops.

During the presentation Bart Horsten spoke about the following topics: (1) Introduction about Horsten International and best practices of doing business in China; (2) The case study of Glacio ice cream in China, Horsten's joint venture with Glacio-IJsboerke of Belgium; (3) Introduction of the New Retail, O2O business and E-commerce in China.
