Building a Winning Team

The human performance loop behind Belgium’s rise to Olympic gold
More detailed information
How does a team of ambitious amateurs evolve into Olympic, World and European champions? And how do you keep performing once everyone wants to beat you?
In this high-energy keynote, Félix Denayer takes audiences inside the remarkable journey of the Belgian Red Lions. What began as an unlikely Olympic dream grew into one of the most successful team stories in Belgian sport. But the road to the top was neither quick nor straightforward. It took years of shared ambition, honest feedback, continuous adaptation and an unwavering belief in the strength of the collective.
Through powerful stories, emotional footage and lessons from five Olympic cycles, Félix reveals the human dynamics behind sustainable high performance. His keynote is not simply about hockey. It is about building an environment in which people take ownership, use their differences as strengths and contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Félix Denayer is an Olympic and World Champion who knows what it takes to build a team that performs at the highest level, year after year. As a long-standing member of the Belgian Red Lions, he was part of the generation that transformed Belgian hockey from an ambitious outsider into one of the dominant forces in world sport. He competed at four Olympic Games, winning silver in Rio in 2016 and Olympic gold in Tokyo in 2020, and became World Champion with Belgium in 2018.
His journey with the Red Lions started in 2007. Just six months after joining the national team, Félix competed at his first Olympic Games at the age of 18. What followed was a long-term journey built on shared ambition, trust, discipline, honest feedback and continuous improvement. Alongside his international career, Félix also captained KHC Dragons, winning seven national titles and four European medals, and was twice named the best player in the Belgian championship.
What makes Félix’s story particularly relevant to business is that success did not come overnight. The Red Lions had to evolve continuously: from believing that a podium was possible, to building the structures and habits needed to win, and ultimately to facing the even harder challenge of staying at the top. Félix translates those experiences into practical lessons on team culture, ownership, leadership, resilience and sustainable high performance. His central belief is simple: the strongest teams are not built around individual stars, but around an environment in which people trust each other, take responsibility and make one another better. This is also the core of his keynote, which draws clear parallels between elite team sport and the challenges organisations face in building lasting success.
Félix combines the perspective of an elite athlete with an academic and business background. He studied economics while competing at international level and later worked as a financial accountant at Deloitte before choosing to dedicate himself fully to his ambition of becoming World Champion.
On stage, Félix brings the same qualities that defined his sporting career: passion, authenticity and a strong team-first mindset. Through personal stories, behind-the-scenes insights and the highs and lows of competing at the highest level, he gives audiences an honest look at what it really takes to turn ambition into collective achievement.
From Olympic underdog to world champion: how great teams turn shared ambition, trust and continuous improvement into sustainable high performance.
